Appliance Repair-Extending Their Lifespan

Updated: Dec 27, 2018

Many home appliances are bought, they are done so with the intent of having them work for a long period of time. Most average home appliances will have a lifespan of about a decade. This period can be extended though, through timely and professional repairs. In most situations, calling a professional appliance repair service to repair the appliance is cheaper than buying a new appliance as a replacement. There are many appliance repair companies in Alpharetta GA that offer repairs at reasonable prices.

Appliance Lifespan:

When it comes to the expected lifespans of different appliances, we can be sure that no appliance has the same lifespan as another. Studies show that appliances such as microwaves and dishwashers only last for 9 years, regular washing machines for 10 years, garbage disposals last a little longer at 12 years, but the longest estimated lifespan was 13 years for electric ranges, dryers, and refrigerators. Look for repair companies that offer all kinds of refrigerator repair and coil cleaning. Although this study has shown that appliances can last for a specific amount of time, this doesn’t mean that this number is 100% correct. With proper and timely repairs, these estimates can be increased by a couple of years at the very least. These studies cannot be trusted as they do not take into account how frequently the appliances are used, how often they are moved and how well they were maintained.

Extending this period:

Many home appliances can continue to work for years after it has passed its allotted lifespan. Although many homeowners make the mistake of replacing their appliances at the very first sight of a malfunction, it is much better to just get that appliance repaired instead. Depending on how bad the malfunction, how bad the worn-out part or even how long it will take the repair service to repair your appliance, these repairs can still cost hundreds of dollars less than replacement of appliance. Once an appliance is seen to reach the end of its lifespan, many people would consider replacement, whereas many appliances of the 10 year mark can still work for a good few years after that with the replacement of just one part. No matter the age of an appliance, it is always better to repair as long as the repairs are only for a small inexpensive part.

Rely on your repair service provider:

If you cannot decide for yourself for whether or not your appliance requires repairs or replacement it is always better to call your local appliance repair service and have them check to see what needs to be fixed and replaced. If the cost for repairs is too high relative to the price, it is the better option to simply have the entire appliance replaced instead. When calling the appliance repair service, often enough you can explain the problem over the phone and save money on a service call. Most of the time they prefer to do the diagnosis on their own in person to ensure a correct diagnosis.
